A rich calendar of events, from September 1 to 29, to celebrate the productions of the Food Valley and the food culture.
From September 1 to 29 in Parma, it’s time for “Settembre Gastronomico”: the city will host events and initiatives joined by the fil rouge of food for a whole month.
The opening event of “Settembre Gastronomico” will be the incredible Cena dei Mille”(Dinner of the thousand). On Tuesday 3rd of September the historical centre of Parma will turn into a gourmet restaurant under the stars.
For the entire duration of “Settembre Gastronomico”, from Sunday 1st to Sunday 29th of September, under the Portici del Grano arcades on Piazza Garibaldi, there will be the Bistrò Parma: a space where foodies and tourists visiting the city will have the chance to taste the iconic products of the agri-food industry made-in-Parma, in the dishes created by Parma Quality Restaurants. Moreover, the Bistrò Parma will also be the space to host events to promote food culture. Every week a different theme: starting from the Red Gold of Parma (from September 1 to 8), then Prosciutto di Parma PDO (from September 9 to 15), and again the anchovies in Parma (from September 16 to 22), to conclude with the duo Parmigiano Reggiano PDO and pasta (from September 23 to 29, all along the weeks the milk industry.
Parma is also a city of gardens, charming and little known. Giardini Gourmet will give the possibility to visit some of them for two nights (Friday 13th and Friday 27th of September). On a gastronomic walking tour participants will wander among green spaces, historical palaces and festival halls – from Maria Luigia boarding school to the Maestre Luigine cloister, from Bossi Bocchi Palace to Soragna Palace and Pallavicino palace, with the gastronomic touch of Parma Quality Restaurants and the music by Verdi Off – Regio theatre of Parma. Settembre Gastronomico will also be the occasion to have a close view of the productions, with a chance to visit the Barilla pasta factory, the cheese and ham factories where PDO products as Parmigiano Reggiano and Prosciutto di Parma are born, the factory of tomato processing Rodolfi Mansueto. Guided tours to the seven Food museums in the Province of Parma will also be available, a circuit of museums that has no equal in Italy: Parmigiano Reggiano museum, Pasta museum, Tomato museum, Wine museum, Salame Felino museum, Prosciutto di Parma museum, Culatello museum and the Art of Oil making museum by Azienda Agricola Coppini.
On the first two weeks of September, from the 2nd to the 14th, the programme of “Settembre Gastronomico” will also include educational workshops for kids, sponsored by Giocampus to promote the culture of a healthy diet and a responsible food consumption.
The calendar of “Settembre Gastronomico” will feature cultural moments and performances. The most awaited event is Verdi Off (from September 21 to October 20). The opening on September 21 will be with the enthralling Verdi Street Parade departing from the Regio theatre of Parma to the heart of the Oltretorrente, to end up with a party on Piazza Duomo. And right in the heart of the Oltretorrente will find place the chapiteau of Verdi Circus, a place to go to get together and attend concerts, shows and meetings. “Settembre Gastronomico” will also host dj sets, music aperitifs and a glimpse of “Tutti Matti per Colorno”, the festival dedicated to contemporary circus, theatre and music.
Events along the Via Emilia:
To complete the calendar of Settembre gastronomico, a series of events also in the Province, as the Festival del Prosciutto di Parma, scheduled from September 6 to 8 in Langhirano, the Festa della Malvasia of Maiatico, in Sala Baganza on September 7 and 8. In the Emilia region, stand out the “Sagra della Giareda” (Reggio Emilia, September 4 to 8) and the gastronomic event “Piacenza è un mare di sapori” (Piacenza, September 6 to 9).
